Here, nature and culture complement each other, with the ancient city’s character perfectly blended with the magnificent landscapes, drawing tourists from all directions to immerse themselves in its charm.

Tengchong

The Old Town of Lijiang

How Long to Stay

Famous for its unique natural scenery and rich ethnic cultures, Yunnan is a paradise for travel enthusiasts. For first-time visitors, it is recommended to spend 4-6 days to fully experience the essence of Yunnan’s attractions.

How to Get to Yunnan

Since Yunnan is close to Southeast Asia, many international flights there come from places like Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. Kunming is the main city people fly to in Yunnan.

If you’re traveling from Europe or America, you’ll probably fly to Beijing or Shanghai first, and then switch to a different flight to get to Kunming, Dali, or Lijiang.

Fast trains run from big cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, and from provinces near Yunnan, but it takes a long time—6 to 12 hours or more—to get to Kunming by train. Flying is quicker.

Where to Stay During Your Yunnan Tour

Yunnan’s tourist attractions are quite scattered, so it’s best to stay where you play when traveling in Yunnan. It’s advisable to stay near commercial areas, which makes it more convenient to go out for food and shopping. Regardless of the peak or off-peak season (the place barely has an off-season), be sure to book your hotel in advance.

Best Times

Yunnan’s complex climate and terrain mean that the best times to visit different attractions vary. For instance, from March to April, Dali and Kunming are in full bloom, making them ideal for flower appreciation and spring outings. From April to May, Lijiang is at its most beautiful with lush flora and fauna set against the azure sky, resembling a fairyland. But overall, the best time for Yunnan tour is from March to October, which is when there are the most ethnic festivals, as well as the most fruits and flowers.
